"3">Jack Nelson Smitherman, 76, of Fairhope died at UAB Hospital on Monday, Sept. 12, 2011.
"3">He was a native of Bibb County, Ala. Jack was the oldest son of the late Guy and Eunice Henderson Smitherman.
"3">He will be missed by his wife of 55 years, Jimmie Ruth; his sons Mark, Jon and Pat (Hope); daughter, Robin and daughter-in-love, Debby Marino; granddaughter, Grace Smitherman; brother, Jimmy (Mary) of Summerdale; sister, Sally Herron of Centreville, Ala.; several nieces and nephews, along with numerous other relatives and friends.
"3">Jack was member of Fairhope Avenue Baptist Church; Greeno Lodge 598 F.&A.M.; Abba Shrine; Scottish Rite; OES No. 127; a 35-year member of BPO Elks; and a Life Member of Telecom Pioneers, who had worked for Bell System for more than 30 years.
"3">He loved music and taught many young people the beauty of the dulcimer, psaltery and penny whistle. He was loving and loved, a friend to all he met.
"3">A memorial service will be held at Fairhope Avenue Baptist Church on Sept. 24, 2011 at 10 a.m. with the Rev. James Hill officiating.
