GULF SHORES, Ala., — The Indiana Snowbirds Club got off to a great start at Lulu’s on Jan. 12.  A group of 124, including 26 new members, showed up on one of the coldest days.  Shows what a hardy bunch they are!  The club now has a total of 177 members.

Herb Malone from the Tourism Bureau of the Chamber of Commerce was the guest speaker.  He gave background information on the effects of the oil spill on this area. He also thanked everyone for coming back to Gulf Shores and Orange Beach during this time.

A delicious breakfast was enjoyed and many door prizes were given.

The next meeting will be at Lulu’s on Jan. 27 starting at 8 a.m.  The group “Cool Change” will be the program.  All Indiana Snowbirds are very welcome. Dues, if not yet paid, are just $2.50 a person. The breakfast including coffee is $8. Come and find our “hoosier” neighbor!

Approximately 165 Illinois Snowbird Club members and guests attended the first breakfast of 2011 at Lulu’s. President Phyl James described this year’s activities and introduced our speakers; Grant Brown, City of Gulf Shores Recreation & Cultural Affairs Director, Jeannie Fitzgibbons, Orange Beach Parks & Recreation Office Manager and Larry Ellis, Orange Beach Forester and Eco Tour Director. Followed by a Q & A session, we held a drawing for door prizes. Cheryl Borino expressed her (and the Club’s) gratitude for the door prize donations, especially given the economic climate.

The next breakfast meeting is Friday Jan. 28 at 8:15 a.m. (doors open at 7:45) at Lulu’s in Gulf Shores. The cost is $8. Reservations need to be made by Tuesday by calling Rich and Nancy Huizinga at 251-948-7709 or Bill and Eileen Kolek at 251-948-5939.
