FAIRHOPE, Ala. - The Slow Bicycle Society on the Eastern Shore invites bicyclists to join their inaugural ride this Sunday, Aug. 21 at 3 p.m.

“Bicycle riders of all ages and fitness levels are invited to join in this slow, easy-paced ride along the paved Eastern Shore Trail on Scenic Highway 98 in Point Clear,” the group’s new release stated.

Cycling from Mullet Point Park on County Road 1 north to the Grand Hotel and back, participants will enjoy an easy 10-mile round trip ride.

“The group will ride slow enough and make stops often enough that no rider will be left behind,” the release stated. “The ride will be appropriate for families and leisure bicyclist wishing to enjoy a social ride with other leisurely riders. Riders are encouraged to bring water, as summer bicycling, even at a slow pace, can be hot.”

The Slow Bicycle Society on the Eastern Shore is a newly formed group of bicyclers who enjoy riding in at an easy, slow, and social pace, the release stated.

“No spandex required!” the release noted.

The Society was inspired by Copenhagen's Slow Bicycle Movement, Chicago's Slow Bicycle Society, and the newly organized Mobilians on Bikes group, according to the release.

“The group aspires to promote bicycling in Baldwin County as a means of leisure entertainment, social interaction, and viable transportation.”
