FAIRHOPE, Alabama—Community, local business, arts and outdoor activities are things which you might be surprised to find out how much you have been missing. Mile North Disc Golf in Fairhope has made it a mission to highlight and showcase these many local opportunities by hosting Air Fest, a celebration of community, local talent and outdoors.

The inaugural Air Fest 2012 Festival will take place tomorrow, Saturday, Aug. 25, at the Fairhope Municipal Park (at the corner of Volanta Avenue and Greeno Road) from 9 a.m. to 5p.m. Attending will give you the opportunity to give back to the community by supporting the local organizations that will be on hand.

The Baldwin Humane Society will be present, showcasing all the wonderful animals available for adoption. Life South will have their Blood Mobile set up for anyone wanting to donate blood or marrow. The Fairhope Police Department will showcase their K-9 unit and promote their Yellow Dot program. In addition they will offer you the chance to register your bike, making recovery easier in the event of theft.

You will have the chance to shop products, arts and services of all kinds. In the vendor area you will find food, paintings, photography, make-up, jewelry, arts and crafts of all kinds. If all this shopping gets you tired and sore—no worries: at Air Fest you can get massages by the minute at the massage therapy tent, just one of many other businesses that will be on site.

This will be a great time to meet many local business owners and discuss what they have to offer.

When you are ready to take a break, you can make your way over to the entertainment tent where there will be tables and chairs to sit while you enjoy the entertainment provided by many different local talents. On the way to the tent, don't forget to grab yourself some delicious food to munch on, also available on site.

Air Fest is also about promoting outdoor activities. Two of these cost next to nothing and are located at the Volanta Avenue Park. Skateboarding has long been a favorite sport of millions, but what many people do not realize is that Fairhope has its own skatepark.

Air Fest will be hosting a skateboard competition that will have participants traveling from Okla., Texas, Fla., Miss., and different parts of Alabama to come showcase their talents. You will be able to see everything from beginners to professional talent shredding up the park. Pro riders will be on hand doing a meet-and-greet.

Skateboarding too fast-paced? Have no fear because Air Fest is also having a Disc Golf competition. Disc Golf: It's just like regular golf except you have a Frisbee (Disc) not a ball and you have a basket, not a hole.

If you do not already know, there are well over 4,000 permanent disc golf courses in America. Disc golf is the equalizer sport that anyone can play whether you are 8 or 80. Air Fest will give you the opportunity to see many players with many different skill levels. Disc golf is a fun game that has a small footprint environmentally and promotes positive camaraderie.

In addition to those attractions, there will be activities going on throughout the day in the demo area that the public will be able to take part in, such as hula hooping and it's not just for kids. In the demo area you will also get the chance to be hands on with disc golf and get tips from people who play all the time. There will also be an interactive art area for kids where they will be able to create with chalk or paints.

You have no reason to be bored this weekend. There is something for everyone at Air Fest 2012. It is open to the public and FREE to get in. So come on out and see what you have been missing.

Meet some local business owners, listen to some local entertainers, and see what fun and inexpensive outdoor activities are available to you here in your own backyard.
