FOLEY, Ala. — Alabama Connections by the Three Impressionists of L.A., will be the featured artists at the Foley Performing Art Center in February.

An opening reception to meet the artists will be held Feb. 4, from 5 to 6 p.m.

There will have more than 60 fine art original oil paintings on display, the majority of which will be plein air paintings from the lower Alabama region.

Several works of Barbara Grey, Joanne B. Hall and Jan Polk were most recently displayed at Safe Harbor Seafood and the Smith-Coles Historic Home.

The trio are snowbirds who have been painting together since 2004, and consider Gulf Shores to be their winter home.

Alabama Connections will be their third show together as a group.

The Three Impressionists held their first group show, Alabama Paintings, in 2008 at the Performing Art Center.

Their second show, Travels, was honored to be the first of the newly established Monthly Featured Artist exhibits at the Orange Beach Art Center in January 2009.

Each of them uses different mediums and tools to create their plein air (in the open air) paintings.

It is very interesting to see how the same scene can be interpreted three different ways by their three very different styles.

Hall (Arkansas) uses mostly a paint brush, Grey (Vermont) uses a paint brush and pallet knife combination, and Polk (Kentucky) uses strictly a pallet knife and only primary colors; no earth tones.

If they are not out painting, they will be out scouting for locations to paint.
