Betty Downing Hottell, 60, died peacefully at her home, Monday, April 23, 2007 after a courageous three-year battle with bone cancer.
She was a beloved wife, step-mother and friend and held a generous spirit and a sense of adventure.
She was a fiercly independent woman and loved to travel, explore new places, and see destinations off the beaten path. She delighted in sharing travel experiences with her family. An avid reader, she also adored sewing, decorating and cooking.
She held a bachelor’s degree from Murray State University, an MBA from the University of Louisville and was a certified internal auditor as well as a CPA. She enjoyed an early retirement after her career as an internal auditor with BellSouth.
She was preceded in death by her father, Lonie Downing; her mother, Earline Smith Downing; and brother, James Downing.
Survivors include her husband, Charles Hottell of Loxley; step-daughter, Jennifer (Michael Voyles) Hottell of Bloomington, Ind.
The family requests memorial donations be made to a scholarship fund which will be established at Murray State University.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Cremation arrangements were made by Cason Funeral Service, Foley.
