James Edward Hooks, born on Feb. 5, 1928 in Lynch, Ky., and a longtime resident of Washington, D.C., died Thursday Feb. 12, 2009 at his residence in Daphne.
He retired from the Defense Protective Service at the Pentagon and the U.S. Marshals Service. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a former president of the local 1733 American Federation of Government Employees Union in Washington. He was also a loyal fan and supporter of the Washington Redskins. Since moving to Daphne he attended Greater Montrose AME Church, where he was very active in many capacities.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmy Lee and Ella Hooks, brother, Alphonso Hooks, and his dearest cousin, Doris Jean McConico.
Survivors include a son, James A. Hooks, of Washington, D.C.; daughter, Vivienne Clarke of Daegu, South Korea; grandchildren, Amber Clarke of Fort Washington, Md., Marcus Hooks and Jerret Hooks of Spanish Fort, and Jordan Clarke of Daegu, South Korea; great-granddaughter Layla Clarke, of Fort Washington, Md.; a devoted cousin, Leon McConico; many other devoted friends and relatives, including Yvonne McKinney, Robert Tramell, Gartrell Agee and MacArthur Lambert.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 21 at Greater Montrose AME Church, Montrose. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens of Fairhope.
