Mary Ellen Hoffman. 66, a resident of Fairhope, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009.

She was born and raised in Illmo, Mo. She and her husband of 43 years, Rodney, retired to Fairhope in 2002 and are members of the Fairhope Unitarian Fellowship.

She devoted her life to teaching and to her family. She served in the Air Force for four years and taught middle school in Whitehall, Ohio, for 31 years. She was voted Teacher of the Year and served as an officer in her union. She continued her compassionate and caring ways after she retired by being active in her church and in her community.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Martha Jean Elliott, and her father, Glenn Elliott Sr.

Survivors include her husband, Rodney Hoffman of Fairhope; son Elliott (Andrea) Hoffman; brother, Glenn Elliott Jr.; and two nieces, April and Billie Jean Elliott.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8 at the Fairhope Unitarian Fellowship.

The family requests memorial donations be made to Ecumenical Ministries Inc., 564 Fairhope Ave, Fairhope, Al., 36532.
