Historic Blakeley State Park will showcase its mix of history, nature and entertainment Saturday, May 16, with a lineup of special cruises, a living history program and an evening concert featuring local musician Jesse Taylor Perry.
The day’s activities highlight the park’s role as both a historical site and outdoor destination along the Gulf Coast, offering visitors opportunities to explore the Mobile-Tensaw Delta, learn about life in early Alabama and enjoy live music under the evening sky.
Two 90-minute cruises departing from the Alabama Wildlife Federation Delta and Bay Conservation Center at Five Rivers will take guests through the lower reaches of the Mobile-Tensaw Delta, one of the nation’s largest river delta systems. The guided excursions, offered in the morning and afternoon, will introduce visitors to the area’s diverse wildlife habitats and scenic waterways.
At 9:30 a.m., the park will also host a special demonstration focused on early 1800s foodways and frontier cooking practices in the former town of Blakeley. Visitors will learn what residents of the historic settlement may have eaten on a daily basis, along with how ingredients were gathered and meals prepared during the territorial period.
Presenters for the program will include members of the History Museum of Mobile’s Colonial Fort Conde living history team. Colonial Fort Conde serves as one of several historic sites operated by the museum and frequently offers educational demonstrations centered on Gulf Coast history and culture.
Saturday’s events will conclude with an outdoor performance by singer-songwriter Jesse Taylor Perry beginning at 6:30 p.m. Perry’s music blends influences from multiple genres and is designed to appeal to audiences of all ages. C&M Eats food truck will be on-site serving barbecue during the concert. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs for the performance.
