GULF SHORES, Ala. – Heisman Trophy winner Herschel Walker credited his offensive line for much of his success during his CSS Legends Interview on the beach in Gulf Shores at SEC Beach Fest on Saturday afternoon.

The Georgia Bulldog running back rushed for 5,259 yards and 49 touchdowns in his college career and won the Heisman Trophy in 1982.

“If you watched my offensive line coached by coach (Wayne) McDuffie, I don’t think I ever got hit behind the line of scrimmage, maybe the whole time I played at Georgia,” Walker said. “That’s absolutely amazing for a running back to get all the way through the line of scrimmage without getting hit.”

Walker went on to play for the USFL’s New Jersey Generals as well as the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys, Minnesota Vikings, Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants before retiring in 1997.
