Herbert Lewis “Bert” Vernon, 59, a native of Chickasaw and a resident of Bay Minette, died Friday, Sept. 24, 2010 at South Baldwin Regional Medical Center after an extended illness.
He recently retired from the Bay Minette Police Department after 26 years of service to the people of the city.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis and Elsie Vernon; two sisters, Bettie Sawyer and Edna Locke; and two brothers, Curtis R. Vernon and Tommie Vernon.
Survivors include his wife, Kimberly P. Lacey Vernon; two sons, Michael Vernon and Josh Vernon; daughter, DeeDee Vernon; one granddaughter, Skylar Ayres; two step-sons, Curtis Pritchett and David Lacey; sister, Annie Vernon Edington; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Sept. 26 from the chapel of Norris Funeral Home with the Rev. Glenn Vernon officiating.
The family requests memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 19059 Greeno Road, Suite A, Fairhope, AL 36532 or to the Christmas Cop Fund, c/o Bay Minette Police Department, P.O. Box 1208, Bay Minette, AL 36507.
