Herbert J. Malone Sr., 93, a native of Gulfcrest, Ala., who lived in Citronelle until 2007 when he moved to Gulf Shores, passed away May 26, 2013 at his home.
Mr. Malone served in the United States Army during World War II, and was employed with Brookley Air Force Base for 26 years before retiring.
He was preceded in death by grandson, Michael L. Malone; great-granddaughter, Leah Malone; parents, Jesse and Alice Malone; six brothers; and two sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Bernice Byrd Malone; daughters, Carolyn Doughty and Clarice Fretwell; son, Herbert J. (Bessie) Malone Jr.; seven grandchildren, Krissy Fretwell Blake, Paul (Jill) Doughty, Michelle Doughty, Karen (Jeff) Deakins, Nicole (John) Turberville, Wilton (Naomi) Fretwell and Jessica (Michael) Newton; 10 great-grandchildren, Jordan Blake, Rhett Blake, Malone Doughty, Sarah Deakins, Cole Deakins, Caroline Turberville, Mackenzie Morrison, John Bryars Turberville, Grant Fretwell and Aubrey Newton; sister, Jeanette Cabiness; other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 1 until the 2 p.m. funeral service on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at Freeman Funeral Home in Citronelle. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery, Mobile.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Michael L. Malone Memorial Law Enforcement Scholarship Fund at P.O. Box 1600, Foley, AL 36536.
