Heavy rain, rip currents expected from tropical disturbance near Texas coast

Posted

Prolonged heavy rainfall continues to take shape across South Texas through the Lower Mississippi Valley as impacts are forecasted to hit South Alabama by the end of the week.

“The National Hurricane Center has identified Potential Tropical Cyclone One near the Texas coast. While the system is expected to weaken before approaching the area, we will likely still see impacts for the local area, particularly on Thursday. These potential impacts include life-threatening flash flooding, isolated tornadoes, high surf and minor coastal flooding,” the National Weather Service-Mobile posted June 16 on Facebook.

Alabama meteorologist James Spann posted on his social channels that “rain amounts of 3-6 inches are likely across much of the state through Friday night.”

There is a high risk for rip currents along the entire Alabama Gulf Coast through Destin today through Saturday.
