H.C. “Clifford” Callaway, 88, a native of Orange Beach and resident of Foley, died Monday, Sept. 26, 2011.
The Callaway heritage includes Mr. Clifford Callaway’s grandfather, James Clifford Callaway, the first to settle in Orange Beach.
Mr. Clifford Callaway was the oldest living Callaway of his family in Baldwin County. Mr. Callaway was a WWII veteran serving in the Merchant Marines.
He was a member of the Orange Beach United Methodist Church, was a retired marine electrician and enjoyed fishing, boating and was a waterman and merchant marine captain for Delta Steamship Lines for many years.
He was preceded in death by his former wives, Jean Powers Callaway and Lee Ella Conlay Callaway; sister, Hazel Wenzel; and four brothers, Marion Callaway, Lloyd Callaway, Cmd. Arvin Callaway and Nolan Callaway.
Survivors include his wife, Myrth Graham Fuller Callaway of Foley; two daughters, Rita Jean Callaway of Pensacola, Fla. and Donna Marie McLeod of Bentonville, Ark.; son, Gary Wayne Callaway of Robert, La.; stepdaughter, Julia Ann Fuller-Murray of Slidell, La.; stepson, Lt. Col. William Gabriel Fuller IV of San Antonio, Texas; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Sept. 30, 2011, at 2 p.m., at Mack Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Alan McBride officiating. The family will begin receiving friends at noon Friday, prior to the service.
