Hazel Cabaniss Fallis

Hazel Cabaniss Fallis of Mt. Airy, N.C., passed away on Wednesday, May 21, 2014, four days shy of her 90th birthday.

Hazel was born to the late Robert W. and Myra M. Cabaniss on May 25, 1924.

She was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Marvin Cabaniss, Bannie Cabaniss, Narvalee Cabiniss, Ray Cabaniss, Catherine C. White, Roberta C. McLain, Leona C. Hartner, Robert William Cabaniss Jr., George Cabaniss, Bobby Cabaniss, Hiriam Cabaniss and Williard Cabaniss.

Hazel is survived by her devoted husband of 53 years, Jon (Jack) Fallis; her daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Mark Zehnbauer of Glen Gardner, N.J., and Cynthia and Reinhard Beatty of Blacksburg, Va.; six grandchildren, Jonathan Zehnbauer, Timothy Zehnbauer, Adam Zehnbauer, Megan Beatty, Emily Beatty and Julia Beatty; and many loving nieces and nephews, who each held a very special place in her heart.

Hazel completed her nursing training at Mobile City Hospital and Spring Hill College in Mobile.

She had a long and varied career as a registered nurse, administering care to many.

She was an active member of Salem United Methodist Church, and for many years a volunteer nurse with Hospice of Surry County.

She spent her life devoted to serving others and enjoying many hobbies, including gardening, square dancing, cooking and entertaining.

She and her husband were the first to operate a bed and breakfast in Mt. Airy.

Funeral services will be held at Pine Grove Baptist Church in Bay Minette on May 31, 2014 at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorials to Mountain Valley Hospice or Salem United Methodist Church in Mt. Airy, N.C.
