The Haunted Book Shop will mark Independent Bookstore Day with a full day of events, author appearances and exclusive offerings April 25 at its location at 9 S. Joachim St.
The annual celebration will feature giveaways with purchase and limited merchandise available only through independent bookstores, a news release sai. Organizers encourage visitors to arrive early for one of the day’s most anticipated events, the Libro.fm Golden Ticket hunt, which begins at 11 a.m. Per the release, only one customer will find the ticket and win 12 free audiobooks, a year’s supply.
Programming begins shortly after with storytime at 11:30 a.m. led by actor and author Jodie Cain Smith. The afternoon continues with a book signing from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. featuring Mollie Smith Waters and her nonfiction title, “Historical Resting Places of Alabama.”
At 4 p.m., author Seth Panitch will appear in conversation followed by a signing of his novel, “Antique.”
“We are thrilled to host such an exciting line-up of activities and author signings for Independent Bookstore Day. We believe that events like these enrich our community and strengthen our connection to the world of books and look forward to this day every year,” said owner Angela Trigg.
Families can also enjoy storytime offerings for children throughout the day, and visitors may encounter Mr. Bingley, the store’s resident cat, known among regulars as a favorite attraction.
All Independent Bookstore Day merchandise and giveaways will be available while supplies last.
