Thursday at 6 p.m.Orange Beach Library welcomes educator and

historian Harriet Outlaw for an introduction to the Swift-Coles Historic

Home in Bon Secour.

This tidewater mansion, originally built in 1882 and

expanded in 1908, was built on a point of land at the intersection of

Schoolhouse Creek and the Bon Secour River and  is one of the grandest homes

in Baldwin County.

This home was in continuous use as a family residence by

members of the Swift family until 1976 and is now open to the public for

tours of the home and grounds.

Outlaw is a volunteer docent at the house and a member of the

Baldwin County Historic Development Commission, which owns the home and its

contents. Ms. Outlaw is a retired educator with the local school system and

a long-time student of Baldwin County history.

She co-authored the Arcadia

Baldwin County photojournal of old photographs of the area and currently

writes local history articles for Mobile Bay Magazine and Baldwin County

Living magazines. She has also worked with the production of the series of

doucumentaries on historic schools in the county.
