Harlan Lee Bankester, age 76, a lifelong resident of Spanish Fort, Ala., passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2015.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, he enjoyed gardening with his grandchildren, he was a U.S. Navy veteran, a graduate of the University of Alabama, avid golfer, fisherman, hunter and was an Eagle Scout.

Mr. Bankester was a member of East Pointe Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School and served as a deacon, he loved his family and community and was fortunate to be able to coach his children and grandchildren in sports.

Mr. Bankester was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Evelyn Bankester.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Carolyn Bankester of Spanish Fort, who he loved and cherished; two daughters, Kandy (Jeff) Chastain of Fairhope, Ala. and Kelly (Chuck) Strunk of Statham, Ga.; one son, Blake ( Frances) Bankester of Southlake, Texas; one brother, Mel (Jean) Bankester of Pensacola, Fla.; one sister, Beth Dixon of Daphne, Ala.; 10 grandchildren, Andrew, Austin, Trey, Brooke, Anna, Jackson, William, Benny, Kendyll and Sawyer.

A celebration of Harlan’s life will be held on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at 11 a.m. at East Pointe Baptist Church.
