Judith “Judy” Lucille Hall, 89, died Friday, Feb. 19, 2010 at Oakwood Health Care Center in Bay Minette, after a lengthy illness.
She was born Nov. 14, 1920 in the town of Quindici, Italy. At the age of 7, she immigrated to the United States through Ellis Island with her parents, Michael and Filomena Torino and her brother and sister. The family established their new home in Malden, Mass.
During World War II., she met and married Leslie Eugene “Gene” Hall and shortly thereafter, they moved to Bay Minette where they have lived for over 65 years. She was a sales clerk at Stacey’s Drug Store, S. Kahalley’s, Strong’s Department Store and Thompson’s Fine Fashions.
A devout Catholic, she was the oldest member of St. Agatha Catholic Church and conversations with her regarding her faith community would always begin with her memories of attending Mass in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lemerise, whose home still remains on the corner of Hand Avenue and Ninth Street. She was very active in the Catholic Women’s Organization where she served as the chairperson of the Christmas bazaar bake sale booth for years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, John Torino; a sister, Cammy Deyeso and two beloved sons-in-law, William Roger Smith Jr. of Bay Minette and Jon Campbell of Orange Beach.
Survivors include her husband of almost 66 years, Gene Hall; son, Kenneth (Elizabeth) Hall of Bay Minette; three daughters, Sandra Hall Smith, Elizabeth “Beth” Hall Campbell and Lynn Hall Waters, all of Bay Minette; two sisters, Dorothy Torino Simicle of North Hills, Calif., and Eleanor Torino Gentile of Malden, Mass.; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23 at St. Agatha Catholic Church with the Rev. Ernest Hyndman officiating. Burial will follow at Bay Minette Cemetery.
Pallbearers are her grandsons, Michael, Garry and Christopher Bulman, Kenny and Jonathan Hall and Roger Smith III.
The famly requests memorial donations be made to the St. Agatha Building Fund.
