Gulf South Angels and Hatch Fairhope will bring experienced investors, business leaders and aspiring angel investors together Oct. 1 for an event focused on the fundamentals of early-stage investing and the Gulf South startup ecosystem.
The organizations will host Angel Hour: Investor Fundamentals & Social from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, at Hatch Fairhope, located at 55 S. Bancroft Street, Ste. 338 in Fairhope, a news release said.
Gulf South Angels, the region's largest angel investor group, and Hatch Fairhope, South Alabama's premier tech incubator and innovation hub, are inviting Mobile Bay Area business leaders, accredited investors and others interested in angel investing to attend the event.
The evening will begin with a casual fireside conversation about the fundamentals of angel investing, followed by networking with Gulf South Angels members and other members of the region's business community.
The event is designed for people who are interested in angel investing but do not know where to begin as well as active investors looking to sharpen their approach, expand their portfolios or connect with fellow investors.
“Angel investing can feel complex, but access to experienced investors and candid conversations can change that. At Hatch, we want to help more people across the Gulf South understand how early-stage capital works while giving founders a clearer picture of what investors are looking for,” said Keith Glines, director at Hatch Fairhope, in the release. “Partnering with Gulf South Angels for this event creates a unique opportunity to bring those two sides of the table together, strengthen our regional investment community, and ultimately help more promising companies get the capital and connections they need to grow.”
Glines will moderate the fireside chat, which will feature Gulf South Angels investors Mike Eckert, board chairman, and Hunter Adams, a Mobile-based member and founding patent attorney at AdamsIP, LLC.
The discussion will examine how the panelists got started in angel investing, what they consider when evaluating a startup, common red flags and how joining an angel group can help investors navigate the process.
“Whether you’re considering your first investment or looking for ways to become a more thoughtful investor, there’s a lot to learn from people who have been through the process,” said Adams, founding patent attorney at AdamsIP, LLC. “I’m looking forward to sharing what I’ve learned and connecting with other investors in the Mobile Bay area.”
The event also will examine the role angel investors play in the Gulf South's startup ecosystem. Angel investors can provide early-stage companies with capital as well as expertise, mentorship and strategic connections.
“Angel investing gives business leaders a way to put their experience and capital to work in promising companies at an important stage of their growth,” said Eckert, board chairman of Gulf South Angels. “We hope this event gives people a practical understanding of how angel investing works and introduces attendees to a community where they can continue learning and getting involved.”
Angel Hour: Investor Fundamentals & Social is open to accredited investors and anyone interested in learning more about angel investing. More information and RSVPs are available at https://hatchfairhope.com/events/angel-hour-investor-fundamentals-social.
