At Monday¹s Gulf Shores city council meeting, elected officials rejected a
request to amend the zoning ordinance to allow short-term rentals on all
waterront properties between West Brigadoon Trail and Middle Brigadoon
Trail. The area being considered was not part of the single family and
duplex tourist rental overlay district that was previously adopted by city
council.
During the previous city council work session a week ago, a number of
residents and property owners voiced their opinions on the proposed change.
There are 42 properties that would have been affected by the change, giving
those property owners the opportunity to rent their houses on a short-term
basis, or less than 180 days, if they so desired.
Although there appeared to be more support for the measure than against, the
council voted unanimously to deny the request.
