The Gulf shores Dolphins won the Class 5A Area 1 tournament last night and three more areas with Baldwin County representatives will crown tournament champions tonight.

Gulf Shores owned the No. 1 seed and earned a bye into the finals of the three-team tournament. Elberta swept B.C. Rain to advance to the finals where the Dolphins earned a sweep (25-13, 25-15, 25-9) to take a No. 1 seed into the super regional bracket.

Also in action last night, top-ranked McGill-Toolen took the Class 7A Area 2 title with sweeping wins over Foley in the semifinal and Fairhope in the final (25-5, 25-17, 25-15). The Pirates took down Daphne 3-2 to earn their spot in the championship match and will now garner the No. 2 seed heading into regionals.

Thursday night will see tournaments in Class 6A Area 2, Class 4A Area 1 and Class 2A Area 1 to be hosted at Bayside Academy, UMS-Wright Prep and Bayshore Christian, respectively.

On the 6A stage, Bayside Academy draws Baldwin County and Spanish Fort will meet with Robertsdale in the semifinals. On the 4A circuit, top-seeded UMS-Wright will clash with Satsuma while Orange Beach and St. Michael Catholic will battle it out in the other semifinal matchup.

As the only two teams in the 2A bracket, Bayshore Christian will look for its second win this season over Chickasaw after the Eagles won Oct. 4’s regular-season area match.

In the Panhandle Christian Conference, the semifinal matchups are set where the No. 2 seed Central Christian Saints will draw the third-seeded Lighthouse Ambassadors tomorrow at 7 p.m. The fourth-seeded Christian Collegiate Bulldogs advance to face the top-seeded Pensacola Christian Warriors in the other semifinal matchup with the finals set for Oct. 15 at 2:30 p.m.

Earlier this week in MaxPreps’ updated state rankings, eight of Baldwin County’s 12 representatives in the Alabama High School Athletics Association owned top-100 spots entering their area tournaments.

The Spanish Fort Toros remained the county’s highest-ranked team and checked in at No. 12 in the Oct. 11 version of the rankings. They were followed by Bayside Academy (No. 15) and Orange Beach (No. 22) in the top 25.

Fairhope (No. 33), Daphne (No. 37) and Gulf Shores (No. 43) all also remained in the top 50 this week and were joined by St. Michael (No. 97) and Bayshore Christian (No. 98) in being among the top 100 teams.
