Gulf Shores wide receiver Carter Davis has decided to take his talents to Morgantown for his college career.
On social media Monday, June 8, Carter, a Class of 2027 recruit, announced his commitment to the West Virginia Mountaineers, led by head coach Rich Rodriguez. He chose the Mountaineers over finalists LSU and Mississippi State, also having received offers from programs such as Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, Miami, Tennessee, Wake Forest and others.
Davis has long been on the Mountaineers' radar. He received an offer last summer under program legend Pat White, who is from Daphne and serves as an assistant quarterback coach and assistant to the head coach. His commitment comes after Davis visited West Virginia on June 5, followed by a visit to LSU on June 12.
Davis is currently ranked as a 3-star recruit and the 26th top recruit in the state of Alabama, according to 247Sports Composite. During the 2025 season, Davis emerged as one of the top playmakers for Gulf Shores, catching 45 passes for 715 yards and 9 touchdowns. He also rushed for 118 yards and 4 TDs.
Outside of the gridiron in football, Davis also competes in track, having made headlines earlier this year for winning a 60-meter race in 6.76 seconds en route to a 6A state title, making him the fastest person in the state among all classifications.
