Gulf Shores raises money with recycling program

Posted

Despite soft prices for aluminum cans, the aluminum recycle project at First Presbyterian Church of Gulf Shores has donated almost $2,000 to various local agencies during the past year. Originally organized by the Men’s Club at the church as an opportunity for members to recycle for a good cause, the project has grown, with volunteers gathering cans from both Peninsula and Craft Farms golf courses and the Gulf Shores Duplicate Bridge Club.

Recipients of the funds generated by the project were: Alabama Sheriffs’ Boys Ranch, Family Promise, Habitat for Humanity, Youth Reach Gulf Coast, the Christian Service Center, Kairos Prison Ministry and the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo. In addition, $200 was used to purchase Christmas gifts for residents at the veterans home in Bay Minette.

Any individual, business, or group that would like to donate empty aluminum beverage cans to this project can drop them off at the church, or call 251-968-7720.
