GULF SHORES, ALA. — Gulf Shores police officer Marlin Hanner was making a 2 a.m. traffic stop and discovered and recovered some stolen items in the vehicle’s back seat.
All before the burglaries, one on West Beach, were even reported.
West Beach resident Sharon Moore came to the City Council meeting Monday to point out the quick action by Hanner and give her praise to the department.
“I just wanted to mention how good our police department is,” Moore said. “We had a recent burglary out on the beach and I don’t know if they found merchandise before it was even discovered it was missing, but I think they did.
“Now that’s some police work. Thank you.”
Police Chief Edward Delmore accepted the compliment and went on to praise Hanner who made the recovery and arrest.
“That was actually one of our newer officers who made a stop and did indeed find several items of stolen electronics, had enough probable cause to seize those at the time and then the actual burglary, or burglaries I should say, were discovered the following day,” Delmore said.
“It was very proactive officer doing very good work. We appreciate the compliment very much.”
The quick work resulted in the arrest of Michael Anthony Mackinaw of Gulf Shores on East Canal Drive. He is charged with two counts of receiving stolen property in the second degree. The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call GSPD Detectives at 251-968-2431.
