The Gulf Shores Police Department will soon be receiving 70 new Taser devices after approval from the city.
Gulf Shores City Council approved the request at the most recent city council meeting on Aug. 14.
According to documents presented at the meeting, 70 of the department's current Tasers are out of warranty and nearing the end of their life expectancy.
The replacement devices will have several upgrades and are expected to cost a total of $313,518.04, which will be split into five annual payments of $62,703.61.
The new devices will be given to both police officers and detention officers within the department.
According to the proposal, the first payment will be due in February, and the payment will be finalized in February 2028 with a 0% interest agreement and securement of the 2023 pricing for the life of the agreement.
