Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, Elberta, Spanish Fort earn top seeds in regional bowling tournament

SPANISH FORT — Thursday’s first day of competition for the South Regional bowling championships at Eastern Shore Lanes was eventful where four of Baldwin County’s six teams registered top-four seeds entering tomorrow’s single-elimination tournament.

Girls’ squads from Gulf Shores (No. 2) and Orange Beach (No. 4), as well as boys’ teams from Elberta (No. 2) and Spanish Fort (No. 4), will be in the top halves of their bracket entering play tomorrow with a trip to the state tournament on the line. Other local finishers included Daphne in 5th for the 6A/7A girls’ bracket and Gulf Shores in 6th for the 1A/5A boys’ bracket.

Additionally, eight Baldwin County bowlers registered scores that ranked in the top 10 of the total qualifying results against the top teams in the south region.

Gulf Shores’ Morgyn Jones (446 for 5th) and Adriana Venus (424 for 7th) were followed closely by Mari Hayden Reeves (419 for 8th) and Molly Reese (416 for 9th) from Orange Beach in the girls’ ranks.

On the boys’ circuit, Marshall Egbert (601 for 5th) from Gulf Shores was the local leader ahead of Elberta’s Jerhyn York (588 for 7th) and Brody Cain (549 for 9th) in the 1A/5A competition and Weston Payne (561) finished 10th in the 6A/7A tournament.

Friday, back at Eastern Shore Lanes, will be the single-elimination, Baker style tournament where the top four teams in each bracket will punch a ticket to the state tournament.
