Outdoor and In Entertainment Series hopes to expand to the parks and to the beach

By Dale Jones

Gulf Shores officials are hoping to expand the popular Outdoor and In Entertainment Series that has been taking place for several years in the city. Normally, the events are featured at the Erie Meyer Civic Center, but Brigette Reynolds, who works with the parks and recreation department, says steps are being taken to add some additional venues.

“We are wanting to broaden our demographic in order to reach out to more of our community,” Reynolds told elected officials.

Reynolds suggested two events that would take place at Meyer Park, each beginning around 5:30 p.m. and ending by 8:30.

“The idea is to bring your blanket, bring your chairs, bring snacks, your kids, to meet friends and just relax in the park and have entertainment there,” Reynolds said.

Reynolds also suggested having two campfire events at the public beach, one at the end of April and the other during August, which would include a small campfire, possibly some acoustic music and maybe some fun dance music provided by a DJ.

“Something where they could line up on the sand and do the Macarena and the Cupid Shuffle and all the fun line dances that families like to do.”

According to Reynolds, the August event would be more of a back-to-school type gathering, involving the schools and booster clubs.
