The City of Gulf Shores is launching Gulf Shores 101, a seven-week interactive citizens academy designed to give residents and local business owners an inside look at how the city operates.

According to a news release, the program begins Sept. 15 and runs through Oct. 27, with sessions held each Tuesday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Participants will meet city leaders, explore key city departments, tour important facilities and take part in hands-on activities focused on the services and operations that support the community.

Each session will provide an in-depth look at city operations, the roles of various departments and opportunities for residents to become more involved in their community. The city said the program is intended to help participants become informed and engaged partners who can play an active role in Gulf Shores.

“We are excited to offer Gulf Shores 101 as a way to bring our residents even closer to the work we do every day,” City Administrator Jon Walker said in the release. “This program is designed to empower our community by providing transparency, strengthening connections, and helping citizens understand how they can play an active role in keeping Gulf Shores a vibrant and welcoming place to live.”

Applications opened Tuesday, Aug. 11, and will close Monday, Aug. 31. Space is limited and interested residents and business owners must submit an application for consideration.

Those selected to participate will be required to pay a $25 program fee.

More information about Gulf Shores 101 and the application is available at www.gulfshoresal.gov/1931/Gulf-Shores-101.
