GULF SHORES, Ala. — The Gulf Shores Dolphins stopped 1A No. 1 Linden on fourth-and-goal as time expired and held on for a 20-14 win on Friday.

The Patriots (6-1) drove 59 yards to the Dolphin 8 and had first-and-goal with 19 seconds left in the game. On first down Linden scored a touchdown on a run to the right, but the Patriots were called for holding. The Patriots were flagged for two false starts before the Dolphins forced an incomplete pass on fourth down from the 22. It was the fourth time Gulf Shores (4-3) stopped Linden on downs.

"It was just big for our defense to step up there," Gulf Shores head coach Ben Blackmon said. "Hats off to Linden, they've got a good football team. It is going to be tough to beat them, especially in their classification. It was tough for us tonight, they have a great football team. I'm proud of our kids. They fought and fought and fought. The kids are starting to believe. They are starting to understand they have to play four quarters of football, and they did that tonight."

Gulf Shores quarterback Brandon Silvers was 9-of-15 for 191 yards and a touchdown and rushed for a score in the win. Josh Carroll carried 15 times for 58 yards and a score, and Tyler Dunnam had a touchdown catch for the Dolphins.

Gulf Shores plays at St. Paul's on Friday at 7 p.m.
