Gulf Shores church begins classes

Gulf Shores United Methodist Church will hold an introduction class to Centering Prayer beginning Monday, Jan. 9 and ending Feb. 27 from 10-11:30 a.m., Building B - Room 106.

Centering Prayer is a silent form of prayer; it helps build an inner peace and a closer, more personal relationship with God. Centering Prayer will be explained, we will pray together, and discuss our experiences.

There is a companion text, “Forty Days to a Closer Walk with God: The Practice of Centering Prayer.” If you have questions or wish to reserve a book, contact Patti Bodenhamer at 251-952-2175 or pattibodenhamer@gmail.com.

On Thursday, Jan. 12, the church will have a New Year's Resolution Walk.

As you begin to reflect upon the past year and begin to close out 2011, take time to come to the prayer labyrinth and mediate upon what changes you will take with you into the New Year, 2012.

Come to January's New Year labyrinth prayer walk to reflect and release yourself from the past year; discern within your meditation what is being drawn up from the center of God's heart for you in 2012.

As you ponder and commit your resolution intentions, there will be a prayer station where you can seal your commitment with the “Eucharist.” Also invite others to prayer walk with you for world love, peace and healing for 2012.

The January New Year's prayer labyrinth will be Thursday January 12th in the Auditorium, Building B. It is a come and go event during the hours of 3-7 p.m.
