A coastal artist whose work celebrates the Gulf Coast has been selected to create the official image for one of south Alabama’s best-known spring events.
Nicole Goodbar of Gulf Shores was chosen as the winner of the annual Festival Poster Contest, and her original design will represent the 22nd annual Gulf Coast Hot Air Balloon Festival according to a news release. The event returns to Foley April 30 through May 2 at OWA Parks & Resort.
Goodbar’s artwork will appear on the official festival poster and T-shirts along with select merchandise. Posters and shirts featuring the design will be sold at the festival and after the event online at www.gulfcoastballoonfestival.com.
An accomplished acrylic painter, Goodbar has more than 25 years of experience as a mural artist, land and seascape painter and custom furniture maker the release said. Her work combines craftsmanship with vivid color to create pieces rooted in place and informed by life along the coast.
She draws inspiration from her husband Eric, daughter Kyleah, son Kole and extended family. She credits a mother who always believed in her talent and a faith that guides her creative purpose.
Per the release, the winning poster reflects her love of landscape painting and captures Foley’s small-town feel alongside its busy festival atmosphere. With patriotic touches marking America’s 250th anniversary, the piece highlights community, character and the pride of the Gulf Coast. Through her work, Goodbar aims to convey the heart of Foley and encourage others to value the place they call home.
The three-day festival will feature family activities and entertainment including the Disc-Connected K9 Dog Show, a kids zone, local vendors, live music, food and drink options, tethered hot air balloon rides and a new drone show. Festival hours are Thursday and Friday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
