The City of Gulf Shores is accepting applications from high school students interested in gaining firsthand experience in municipal government through the 2026-2027 Junior City Council.
The program is open to students in grades 10 through 12 who live within Gulf Shores city limits, a new release from the city said. The city will select up to 15 students to participate in the program, which runs from September through May.
Junior City Council members will meet monthly, hear from guest speakers and work together on community projects. Participants also will attend City Council meetings and collaborate on initiatives designed to benefit the Gulf Shores community.
“The Junior City Council plays a vital role in shaping the future of our community by connecting students directly with city leadership,” Mayor Robert Craft said in the release. “Each year, our student leaders bring fresh ideas, thoughtful perspectives, and a determined dedication to making Gulf Shores an even better place to live. Their enthusiasm reminds us that the future of our community is bright, and we are proud to support their growth as young civic leaders.”
The city is seeking students who demonstrate leadership, have strong communication skills and are committed to serving their community.
Applications are being accepted through Aug. 28. Interviews for finalists are scheduled for the following week.
