Gulf Coast Media’s Local Legends: Fauntroy records second INT, Friedman earns Runner of the Week honor

Posted

Baldwin County has always been full of athletic talent, and a plethora of players from the area have gone on to have successful careers at the collegiate and/or professional level.

So in this weekly series, I’ll be highlighting how former local stars fared each week, breaking down their performances and how their respective careers are progressing.

If I’ve missed anybody that I should be including, don’t hesitate to contact parker@gulfcoastmedia.com and I’ll add them to the list.

In this week’s edition, we take a look at Spanish Fort’s Carl Fauntroy starring for ULM, Fairhope’s Baxter Friedman being named Gulf South Conference Runner of the Week for Mississippi College and more:

Baxter Friedman

Mississippi College Choctaws | Cross Country | Redshirt-Senior

High School: Fairhope Pirates

Personal Stats: Named Gulf South Conference Runner of the Week

A former Pirate, Friedman is a veteran of the Mississippi College cross country program and is having his best season to date this fall.

The redshirt-senior was named the Gulf South Conference's Runner of the Week recently and was also tabbed as a top runner to watch within the league.

Kolin Wilson

Mississippi State Bulldogs | Running Back | Redshirt-Freshman

High School: Gulf Shores Dolphins

Previous Game(s): 38-13 W @ Minnesota Golden Gophers

Personal Stats: 11 carries, 34 rushing yards

After producing a breakout performance to open the season against ULM, Wilson continued to be a reliable runner in a rare trip up north.

Through two games, it appears that the former Dolphin has solidified himself as the No. 2 option to Fluff Bothwell in the Bulldogs’ backfield.

Next Game: @ South Carolina Gamecocks | 3:15 p.m. | Saturday, Sept. 19

Creel literally did it all against the Bobcats, as he diced up Ohio with his arm and legs while also even hauling in a reception on a trick play.

But the former Pirates’ Herculean effort wasn’t enough to prevent JSU from falling in a four-overtime thriller.

The Gamecocks will now look to bounce back with a two-game homestand looming.

Fauntroy starred against his former college team, as he finished third on ULM in tackles, recorded the second interception of his career (shown here) and sacked a quarterback for the first time.

Likely playing inspired against UAB, Fauntroy put his full skillset on display and is on track to post the best numbers of his career during his final season.
