Amidst all of the attention being directed towards the gridiron, plenty of Baldwin County swimmers are competing at a high level this fall, and Foley has a freshman phenom who is making waves.
Kinsey Carden has been a standout for the Lions’ swim team this season, and her recent efforts earned her Gulf Coast Media’s latest Athlete of the Week honor after public voting concluded Tuesday evening.
Carden has served as a captain on the Foley team for three years now, and she’s managed to secure three event wins and five Top 5 finishes thus far this season.
But most notable is the fact that Carden has also produced a pair of qualifying times for the Alabama State Championship Meet in Huntsville, which is slated for Nov. 20-21 at the Huntsville Aquatics Center. The freshman will be competing in the 100-yard freestyle and 200-yard freestyle after recording needed times in those events.
Our other nominees for the week include Gulf Shores wide receiver Carter Davis, Baldwin County quarterback Ray Johnson and Bayside Academy wide receiver Mason Edwards.
And be sure to check back here Monday at noon to cast your vote in GCM’s next Athlete of the Week ballot!
