A 42-year-old Gulf Breeze man was arrested Friday after authorities said he forced an acquaintance to travel with him under threat of force from Florida into Alabama.
According to a news release, Foley police responded shortly after noon on April 24 to a complaint alleging that Grant David Barrett had taken a 71-year-old man against his will while traveling from Gulf Breeze to Foley. Officers located Barrett and the alleged victim a short time later. Police said the victim was unharmed.
Following an investigation, Barrett was charged with second-degree kidnapping, second-degree marijuana possession and third-degree criminal mischief.
Foley detectives are coordinating with the Santa Rosa County Major Crimes Unit in Florida, where additional charges are pending, authorities said.
Barrett is being held without bond at the Baldwin County Correctional Facility.
