Greeno Road project may bloom in election

I am for green space, flowers and manicured streets. That is what gives our city so much charm. I am also an avid supporter of the businessman and the emergency crews who respond to vehicle emergencies and our fire department response teams.

The work currently in progress on Greeno Road, U.S. 98 is, in my opinion, creating traffic safety issues and does nothing to expedite the flow of traffic through the eastern corridor of our city . I witness every day emergency vehicles having to take the median lane to get around stalled traffic, just to respond. In fact it creates ingress and egress issues for patrons along that span going in and out of businesses.

I have a business there and can speak to this issue firsthand. I have also witnessed the decreased flow of traffic in those businesses since this construction started. I wish that someone would convince me the cost and the necessity is one we should be engaged in when the city has so many more projects that go without attention because we are told the city has financial issues.

I would also like to know what plans are being made to stop traffic to allow customers back on this highway without jeopardizing safety issues and people taking chances to move freely as we have done in the past? Who will pay for that cost of the traffic signals needed?

Since this highway is designated as a U.S. highway and a hurricane evacuation route, who has the final say in the cost and changes currently under way?

I believe the City Fathers would have been well served to have a comment period and hold hearings on this before any action was taken., It is a mistake and I haven’t heard one responsible party in favor of this. Could it be time this becomes an issue in the current political races for our city?
