ROBERTSDALE, Alabama --- Aubrey Grant Jr. has joined Ruthie Campbell in the race for the Robertsdale City Council Place 3 spot with a runoff set for Oct. 23 as votes were canvassed and final totals were tallied in Central Baldwin on Tuesday, Sept. 18.

The seat is the only one in Central Baldwin that remains undecided as incumbents prevailed in most races. The runoff was originally slated for Oct. 9 but was moved back after elections were postponed from Aug. 28 to Sept. 11 following the threat of Hurricane Isaac.

Only one of Robertsdale’s 13 provisional votes was counted on Tuesday, leaving Campbell in the lead with more than 42 percent of the vote, while Grant held on to his slim lead over the other challenger in the race, Jason W. Dixon, to be included in the Oct. 23 runoff.

Robertsdale Mayor Charles Murphy topped Roger Booth and Mayor Pro-Tem Joe Kitchens topped challenger Earl Colley, each receiving more than 70 percent of the vote while Brent Kendrick won re-election against Lisa Wallace Lee with more than 60 percent of the vote.

Incumbents Sue Cooper and Paul Hollingsworth qualified unopposed for Tuesday’s elections.

In Loxley, two provisional were counted in Tuesday’s canvassing with incumbent Richard Teal receiving both votes to win his seventh term in office, increasing his lead to 59.2 percent of the vote over challenger Vicki Fore Dyess.

Canvassing also did not affect the overwhelming passage of two referendums in support of Sunday alcohol sales in Loxley.

Referendum 1, which pertained to off-premise alcohol sales, received one vote in favor and one vote against bringing the total vote to 170 for and 74 against, while Referendum 2, which pertains to on-premise alcohol sales, received two votes against the measure, but still passed with nearly 70 percent of voters approving the measure.

Both referendums went into immediate effect upon passage, said Town Clerk Melissa Lawrence.

Mayor Billy Middleton and incumbent Council Members Wallace Sabin, Jeffery T. Knight, Katherine Breeden and Michael Allegri Sr. qualified for Tuesday’s elections unopposed.

No provisional were counted in Silverhill’s races but five additional votes were counted in canvassing on Tuesday, which did not affect the vote’s outcome.

Bert Jones received one additional vote with challenger Frankie Kucera adding four votes leaving Jones in the lead 127 to 93, while Jared Lyles garnered all five votes to top Tonie Norden 181 to 38 and Wayne Gruenloh remained ahead over challenger Alan Norden by a total of 176 to 39.

Mayor Timothy Wilson and Shirley Stephens retained their seats on the Silverhill Council unopposed. Michael Allegri Jr. also qualified unopposed and will take over the seat vacated by longtime Council Member Steve Brooks in November.

Summerdale’s race results also remained unchanged with incumbent Ralph Clopton falling to challenger Mary Carolyn McDaniel and challenger Cheryl Stewart topped incumbent Gerald Hughes.

Summerdale Mayor David Wilson, along with Mayor Pro-Tem Norma Wilson Giles, Travis Townsend and Myles Bishop were all re-elected unopposed on Tuesday.
