BAY MINETTE, Ala. — A Daphne man who allegedly repeatedly punched a female in the face and body while the victim was driving, causing bruises, facial bleeding and a broken hand, has been indicted on third-degree domestic violence.

The Baldwin County grand jury set bail at $5,000 Nov. 30 for Joseph James Johnson, 29, of Adams Avenue.

Johnson was “extremely intoxicated” Dec. 24, 2006, when the victim hugged someone at a party, according to a deposition worksheet filed by Daphne Police officer Houston Sanders.

Later, while the victim was driving with Johnson in the passenger seat and three children in the rear seats, Johnson began a 30-minute attack on the female, court records state.

The victim was punched on the right side of her face and body, causing bruising and swelling on her arm and breast, bleeding from the nose and a broken hand, according to a warrant filed in Baldwin County Circuit Court.

The victim was treated and released.

In a separate case, a Spanish Fort man was indicted on second-degree domestic violence after allegedly striking his brother several times in the head with a 35-inch pine log, according to a deposition filed in Baldwin County District Court.

Bryan Michael Brantley, 23, of Stagecoach Road, was arrested Dec. 29, 2006, and spent three days in jail before posting bail set at $7,500.

The altercation at a Stagecoach Road residence between Brantley and his brother, Eric, was witnessed by Eric’s wife, Leslie Brantley, according to court records.

He was arrested and released Oct. 22 on a third-degree domestic violence charge. On Nov. 6, he was again arrested on a third-degree domestic violence charge and remains incarcerated, according to the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Web site.
