Graham Creek Preserve to host meteor shower camp out

Graham Creek Nature Preserve will host a camp out and Perseid Meteor Shower viewing Aug. 12-13. Campers can begin to set up at 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 12, and must pack up their site by 9 a.m. on Aug. 13.

There will be an astronomy lesson, activity and space art project for kids (geared toward ages 10 years and younger), a night time geocache course, s’mores, flashlight tag and of course, the meteor shower viewing. The shower should begin around 9 p.m. and increase in activity through just before dawn — with peak of shower around 2-3 a.m. People are more than welcome and encouraged to utilize our grill and pavilion to cookout and picnic.

Other objects will also be flying through the skies around Graham Creek. There will be a night time “glow” disc golf event on the popular course at the Preserve during this special meteor event.

We are asking for a $15 per family/tent donation to be made to the Friends of the Preserve non-profit group. These donations will directly support our environmental education programs at the Preserve. People can choose to not camp out if their children are too young, or for whatever reason, but they can still come to participate in the activities which will kick off around 7 p.m.
