ROBERTSDALE, Ala.— Eleven Robertsdale High School Softball Players earned the National Fastpitch Coaches Association’s All-America Scholar-Athlete Award for academic excellence for 2015-16. To earn the award, each player must have at least a 3.5 GPA. The RHS Golden Bears team GPA was 3.51. RHS head coach Barry Roberts said he was proud, especially to have so many earn the recognition for themselves and their school and team.
“First of all, I’m just so, very proud of all these girls for this great accomplishment,” he said. “It’s something that’s not easy to do in the course of a season. Especially when they are spending so much of their time dedicated to softball. When you consider they practice from January to May and they play 50-something games, it speaks to their overall character and their level of commitment to doing their best in everything they do. To have eleven do so well is really great. I think it’s also due to a large extent to the excellent faculty and quality academic programs we have here.”
The team GPA puts Robertsdale High in the national running as one of the top-10 teams in the country.
“We do stress time management as an essential part of success,” Roberts added. “They also have to know that softball cannot get in the way of their grades, their faith, family. All that has to come first. I think they have really learned to utilize every minute and make the most of their time.”
The Top-10 high school team awards will be announced in the fall. The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) is the professional growth organization for fastpitch softball coaches from all competitive levels of play. For more information, visit: NFCA.org.
