Betty J. Robinson Glisson, 71, a former resident of Andalusia and a resident of Foley, died Monday, Aug. 6, 2007.

She was born Jan. 17, 1936 in Paul, Ala., and was a member of the class of 1954 at Andalusia High School. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gulf Shores.

She began her career at Covington County Bank as bookkeeper, loan officer, and eventually, served as vice-president. She earned her banking degree from the University of South Alabama and Alabama Banking School of Mobile. She went on to found Southern Shores Mortgage in Foley in 1994 where she worked until her passing.

She was well known and respected in her community for being active in numerous civic and community organizations. She was director of the Central Baldwin County Chamber of Commerce between 1991 and 1995 and was involved in the National Association of Bank Women and the Mortgage Bankers Association.

She was the first female inducted into the Civitan Club of Andalusia since 1983 and was also active in the Altrusa Club, Alabama Pecan Festival, Andalusia United Fund and the Andalusia Area Chamber of Commerce.

She was a member of the Performing Arts Council, Covington County Junior Miss, Inc., South Baldwin County Board of Realtors and the Baldwin County Home Builders Association.

She will be remembered in the community for meeting the needs of others and being a voice and advocate for her friends and neighbors.

She was preceded in death by her father, Aubrey D. Robinson Sr., and her mother, Maude Ellen Sherman Robinson.

Survivors include a daughter Debbie Glisson (Doug) Hadley of Dothan; two grandchildren, James Brannon (Ann Marie) Cook and Misty Bronwyn Cook, both of Dothan; brothers, Aubrey Dean Dobinson of Marietta, Ga., Levi Robinson of Robertsdale, Willis E. Robinson of Mobile, Sherill R. Robinson of Mobile, and R. Robert Robinson of Plantation, Fla.; her sisters, JoAnn Robinson Cole and Elaine “Laney” Denomme, both of Mobile.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, at Foreman Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Griffin from First Baptist Church in Gulf Shores officiating. Interment will follow at Andalusia Memorial Cemetery.
