FAIRHOPE, Ala. - On Monday, members of the Girls Scouts of Southern Alabama Troop 8442 will ask City Council to approve a resolution supporting yield signs in city crosswalks.
“Many teens like to walk downtown, whether it’s to the library or to a coffee shop,” senior scout Annie Yonge stated in a news release. “This will make it safer not just for us, but for everyone who uses the city streets, including school children and the elderly.”
The group met recently with Assistant Chief of Police Terry Sanders of the Fairhope Police Department, FPD Cpt. Joe Petties and Councilwoman Debbie Quinn to take action on placing the yield signs.
The group is asking the city to become the first municipality in South Alabama to place yield-to-pedestrian signs in city crosswalks.
The council meeting begins at 6 p.m., Monday, Feb. 28, and the public participation section at which the Girl Scouts will speak comes near the top of the agenda.
