FORT MORGAN, AL – The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Department is reporting a 12-year-old girl has been struck by lightning here on Sunday, July 5.

According to a release from the department she was playing volleyball on the beach when she was struck about 1:30 p.m. She was transported from the scene before deputies arrived.

"Apparently they were all out there playing volleyball and one got struck and the others were just affected just because of the closeness of the lightning," Fort Morgan Volunteer Fire Department Chief Glenn Stevens said. "There were no other transports and no other injuries besides the one."

Stevens said the incident happened on Bernard Court East and that typically his department doesn't hear information on conditions of patients after they are initially treated and transported.
