The Performing Arts Association of Foley will present the 35th annual Art in the Park Outdoor Fine Arts and Crafts Festival from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
The festival, which is conducted every year on Mother’s Day weekend, will be in John B. Foley Park, at the intersection of Alabama Highway 59 and U.S. Highway 98.
The Art in the Park Committee is pleased to announce that their show was selected by the Alabama Bureau of Tourism and Travel as one of the State’s Top 10 Events for the month of May.
There will be more than 125 outstanding exhibitors from throughout the country participating in the show again this year. You will find something for every taste on exhibit.
There will be fine arts in oils, watercolor, acrylics, pen and ink, unique scratch art, clay floral arrangements, furniture (indoor and outdoor), wearable art and many other things too numerous to mention.
You will have to go to the park and see the wide array of items that will be presented for your consideration.
On Sunday, Swift Presbyterian Church will conduct a church service for the workers and vendors from 8:30 until 8:50 a.m. This is a special service that the Art in the Park Committee arranges as a courtesy to the vendors. The church has provided this service for many years.
There will be entertainment from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday by the fountain.
There also will be children’s activities from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, and from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday at the north end of the park. Again this year, we will have the kids‚ “Paint a Wall” and creative note card painting with Jane Lindsley and Bonnie Blaylock.
The artwork, which comes from 12 of the area’s elementary and middle schools as well as Foley High School, will be on display in the park.
Also, again this year, they will have Dr. Gee! The Balloon Guy; he will be in the park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
All entertainment is free and the members of the Art in the Park Committee hope you will go out and enjoy the show.
As always, there will be a variety of food vendors with tasty treats for everyone.
A special homemade dessert booth will be there from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the northwest corner of the park. This booth will feature desserts prepared by some of the finest cooks in Baldwin County.
The food booths will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. This year’s food selections include: Greek cuisine, barbecue, Oriental cuisine, fried green tomatoes, seafood, buffalo burgers, ice cream, fruit smoothies, shaved ice and specialty nuts.
Plan to take your mother out for lunch, buy her a nice gift and enjoy the entertainment in the park to celebrate her day.
