Gerritt Jan Hinnen, 91, went to be with the Lord April 9, 2015. He resided at Southern Oaks Rehabilitation Center in Pensacola.

Rev. Hinnen was born Feb 22, 1924 in Deventer, The Netherlands. He, his wife, Edith Hinnen, and son, Jan Hinnen, immigrated to the United States in 1956.

In the early 1960s, Rev. Hinnen attended Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur Ga. and earned a master’s degree in theology. He was subsequently ordained a minister in the Presbyterian Church.

He served a number of churches in the Southeast, with his last position being at Robinson Memorial Presbyterian Church In Alexander City.

Rev. Hinnen was preceded in death by his wife, Edith.

He is survived by his four children, Jan Hinnen of Gulf Shores, Jeannette Bignotti of Fredericksburg, Va., Karen Hinnen of Tampa, Fla. and Paul Hinnen of Birmingham; 10 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren.

There will be a memorial service at Gulf Shores United Methodist Church on Thursday, April 16, 2005 at 1 p.m.

Should friends desire, the family requests memorials be given to United Methodist Church of Gulf Shores.
