SPANISH FORT, Ala. — About a dozen of the Mobile-Tensaw Delta’s most majestic creatures put on quite a show Saturday night.

Five Rivers Delta Resource Center hosted a two-hour course on the American alligator, and each of the 20 participants got to witness firsthand about 12 of the reptiles of varying sizes on a guided, spotlight tour of Justin’s Bay after the educational portion of the class concluded.

Shonda Borden, Five Rivers’ assistant manager, said organizers capped the class at 20 members, providing ample elbow room on the boat for a closer look at the delta’s nighttime inhabitants.

“In the first hour, we put everybody in the Tensaw Theater and talked about the alligator himself. Where they live, how they live, how they eat, even their courtship habits and how they parent their hatchlings,” Borden said.

Then the real fun began.
