GULF SHORES, Ala. — At first glance, you get the impression you know Baldwin County resident Gary Ashmore from somewhere.

You think, as he sings, he must be that famous recording artist from Fort Payne, Ala.

No, he is not Randy Owen, the lead singer from the award-winning group Alabama, but they do look a lot alike because they are cousins.

When Ashmore begins to sing it is quite evident that vocal talent is a shared family trait.

The Special Events Division of the city of Gulf Shores invites you and your family and friends to the backyard of the Erie Meyer Civic Center, 1930 W. Second St. on Thursday, Sept. 24, at 7 p.m. for this free outdoor concert.

Ashmore will sing some great country music, including many of the tunes recorded by Alabama, along with selections made popular by Alan Jackson, Conway Twitty, Hank Williams, Elvis and the Drifters, as well as other solid gold oldies.

Ashmore’s laid-back, friendly manner is sure to entertain audiences of all ages.

Born in Phenix City, Ala., Gary Merle Ashmore is married to the former Debbie Ryan, who was raised in Gulf Shores, so he is delighted to appear as part of the Gulf Shores Outdoors and InConcert Series.

This proud father (and grandfather) suggests that everyone bring a mat or lawn chair and join “me and my girls” for this evening of song.

Don’t miss this entertainment opportunity sponsored by the city of Gulf Shores.

For more information on this and other concerts, call the Special Events information line at (251) 968-1172, or log on to www.gulfshoresal.gov, click the “Events” tab, and “click on City Events Calendar.”

In case of rain, the concert will move inside.
