Faulkner State Community College’s Fine Arts Department will present Rodger's and Hammerstein's Tony Award winning WWII period musical, South Pacific, Friday, April 4th at 7 p.m. in the L. D. Owen Performing Arts Center on the Bay Minette campus.

The Friday night production is open free to the public.

The musical depicts life for military personnel in the South Pacific islands during the war.  With memorable numbers such as “Some Enchanted Evening”, “Honey Bun”, and “I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Out-A My Hair”, it is generally considered to be one of the greatest musicals of all time.

The play is based on two short stories by James A. Michener's Tales of the South Pacific, which won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1948.  The show has been depicted on Broadway and in film.  Nellie Forbush, the female lead character, originally starred Mary Martin.  That role has also been played by Mitzi Gaynor, Glenn Close, and Reba McEntire.

This timeless musical is currently preparing for another Broadway run this spring.

FSCC students cast in the production are: Chrissy Brown (Ensign Nellie Forbush); Aaron Parker (Emile De Becque); Rachel Baber (Bloody Mary); Phillip Wiese (Billis); Matt Conway (Capt. Brackett); Ross Hardy (Cmdr. Harbison); T.J. McCarty (Lt. Cable); Nikisha Williams (Liat); David Mendoza (Henry); Aeriel and Calvin Dulaney  (De Becque's Children); Melvin Cox (Stewpot); Nurses—Courtney Ladnier, Sarah Savell, Tiffany Jernigan, Nikisha Williams, Rachel Baber, Katie Gibson, and Chelsea Clemmons; Sailors, Seabees, and Marines—Phillip Wiese, Matt Conway, Melvin Cox, David Mendoza.

The musical is directed by speech instructor Cheryl Larsen.
