Faulkner State will enter the Alabama Community College Conference/Region 22 Baseball Tournament as the No. 6 seed from the South Division after losing two of three games at Central Alabama of Alexander City in its final three-game weekend SD series.
Central Alabama won the first and last games of the series, beating Faulkner 11-1 in eight innings in Friday’s scheduled nine-inning game and 6-5 in the seven-inning second game of Saturday’s doubleheader.
The Sun Chiefs won Saturday’s nine-inning first game 10-2. They will play Shelton State of Tuscaloosa at 7 p.m. Saturday in the state/region tournament’s first round on Dothan’s Pittman Field.
Central Alabama 11, FSCC 1 in 8
Right-hander Shawn Culligan pitched a three-hitter, taming the FSCC bats that had been hot for more than a month. Culligan struck out six Sun Chiefs, walked two and hit one.
FSCC 10-5, Central Alabama 2-6
Bay Minete’s Michael Bain pitched the first eight innings and improved his won-loss record to 5-4. The sophomore right-hander allowed 10 of CACC’s 11 hits, struck out one, walked one and hit one. Vern Darby pitched the ninth.
